September Blog: Walk-Through Metal Detectors Added

Sep 01, 2017

It’s September 1st, which means the event season is just around the corner. As we gear up to host thousands of fans at upcoming London Knights games and major events, we wanted to take this time to highlight some upgrades that were made over the course of the summer.

While many Londoners were busy enjoying the warm weather, hitting the beach and vacationing, the Spectra Venue Management staff at Canada Life Place were busy at work with summer maintenance. Beyond the normal routine of cleansing the building and doing repairs, the venue spent some time upgrading a few major items.

One major upgrade you will notice as soon as you walk through the doors. Meet Garrett (PD 6500i)!

Garrett (PD6500i) is the brand name of the walk-through metal detectors that have been installed at every spectator gate within Canada Life Place. With metal detectors becoming standard practice at major sporting facilities throughout North America, the Spectra team felt it was important to upgrade patron safety at the venue. When you look at the major sporting leagues- NHL, NFL, MLB and NBA, metal detectors are a routine part of the entry process.

Our walk-through metal detectors are much less invasive than those you encounter at airports and with a little practice, fans should find the process easy and seamless.

A message from Brian Ohl, General Manager, Canada Life Place

“Another action packed OHL season is right around the corner and we look forward to welcoming Knights fans to Canada Life Place. In an endeavour to continue to provide first class service to our patrons, we will be implementing NHL standard walk-through metal detectors for the upcoming hockey season, along with all events, which will allow for increased fan safety. Our Spectra team strives to make each visit as enjoyable as possible and we look to continue this tradition for the 2017-18 season. Go Knights Go!”

A message from Dale Hunter, Owner, President and Head Coach, London Knights

“We are very excited to give the London community a great fan experience coming to Knights games, while also ensuring a safe environment. We will be on par with safety measures throughout the NHL. The staff at Canada Life Place will make sure that the security measures put in place will have a smooth transition into all events at the arena, including London Knights games”
