Green Day Blow The Roof Off Of Canada Life Place
BG Reviewer
In 2015 Green Day were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. On Sunday night, they showed why.
The band that is largely accredited with creating the late 90’s early 00's punk scene, along with Blink-182, came to Canada Life Place and put on a show that was a sight to see. Along with front man Billie Joe Armstrong the crowd sang to the classics like Holiday and Basket Case- to their new stuff off their latest album, Revolution Radio.
The legendary band treated London to an extended 2 and a half hour set including an extended encore. But before they went on, Against Me! Opened with a rocking set, wowing the early comers and the fans getting to their seats. Their classic punk look and sound is reminiscent of the younger version of the band they're touring arenas with.
The beautifulness of timeless bands like Green Day is that they are masterpieces on its own. The crowd was full of all ages. Whether you're 15 or 40, Green Day has been there. Being in the mid 40's themselves they offer something almost every fan of punk music has searched for- unity.
Their middle age certainly hasn't edged out their anti-establishment spirit, as they were keen to calling out political figures and dousing fans with water, along with drawing attention to those on their phone during the whole show.
They continued their tradition of bringing fans up on stage to have their moment in the limelight. On the very first song of the night "Know Your Enemy," Armstrong brought up a fan in the front row to rock out to the jam. Not that much later another fan stole the show singing Revolution Radio and owning the stage. Finally, Armstrong brought up a 17 year old girl who shredded the guitar and took the stage by storm. Who else could say they got a guitar lesson by Billie Joe Armstrong in front of thousands of people?
The show seemed to end in a BANG! BANG! As the rockers performed encores with "American Idiot" and "Jesus of Suburbia." But it was Billie Joe himself who closed the show with two acoustic gems in "Ordinary World" and then "Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)."
Whether it was the entire band lying on the floor and performing for a good five minutes, or the unexpected heavy Saxophone influence- Green Day showed in a single night why they are respected on a level almost no other band has achieved. Their energy, passion, and inclusion of the fans proves why Green Day, hasn't seen their final day yet.
