#BGReviewer: The Sound of Music
The RBC Theatre was one of Londoners favourite things on May 26th as Rogers and Hammerstein’s ‘The Sound of Music’ took over the stage.
For many fans when they think of the classic musical they can’t help hear the voice of Julie Andrews. Well Jill Christine Wiley, who played the part of Maria, certainly lived up to their high expectations bringing a warm and cheekiness to the role. Plus Wiley had more than the ability to hit every note exceptionally in her opening number leaving me with goosebumps on my arms.
Another stand out included the Mother Superior played by Lauren Kidwell who brought the audience to their feet with her tremendous performance of ‘Climb Every Mountain.’ Kidwell really brought the song and her role to life.
The von Trapp Children were also a delight to watch. They brought a playfulness and energy to the stage which was perfectly encapsulated in their performance of ‘So Long, Farewell.’ There’s no doubt that these talented kids have a bright future in theater.
It’s one thing to watch the film but hearing the iconic songs live onstage was unlike any other experience leaving Canada Life Place alive with the sound of music.
